My Story Showed Up In The Media

Well, the details got changed around a bit, but this is what was published yesterday on a Hungarian news site

A Contract For One Billion Years

In September, the story of a deserter Scientologist from Hungary, Péter Nyíri, came to the Internet. Nyíri became a member of one of the most infamous organizations in the Church, the so-called Sea Org. This is a sort of religious order of Scientologists, members work on church owned ships. They need to sign a contract that they undertake to serve the Church for the next one billion years (i. e. after their death in their next incarnations). Members who left reported that the Sea Org has a half-military, totalitarian atmosphere, the disciplinary department of the Church strictly punishes all kinds of offenses, while Org members are working 12 to 16 hours a day.

Similar conditions were reported by Péter Nyíri, who escaped straight from one of the ships when it docked in Florida. As he said, Sea Org members are completely isolated from the outside world and their friends and family. They can not have their mobile phones, they can not use the Internet, they can not travel freely even when they are not on board. Meanwhile, he had to perform various services in inhumane conditions, such as selling L. Ron Hubbard’s books on the phone.

When in Miami, according to Nyíri, members went after him , and when he managed to shake them, they broke into his bank account and were constantly harassed to get them to return. Later, he was able to rescue his wife, who has since moved back to Hungary. Péter Nyíri had seen his mother for the first time in 20 years, with whom he had previously interrupted any contact at the order of the church.
